Why should kids attend school?

Here's an interesting post about "the purpose of school" from an unlikely source - Seth Godin's blog - titled "What is school for?" where he lists out quite a few reasons.

I have been thinking about a similar question from a slightly different context; which is to understand the benefits of "homeschooling" versus "sending kids to school". Homeschooling is still a novelty in India and (almost, maybe) mainstream in the US. Should do a post on that some day.

Anyways, there are a few interesting point in Seth's post, but I guess the most common ones in the context of India the most common one may be - Be trained in skills necessary for employment. If we can conciously address few of the other points mentioned in the post, it would be terrific indeed.
