Review for National Center for Excellence (NCFE)
NCFE: Got the admission in Mont 1
I am writing below post for all those parents who stay in IndiraNagar/C V Raman Nagar or nearby areas, and wish to see their child study in a reputed school in the nearby areas. This is a glimpse of what we went though and what you may face too.
Like most parents, we had filled up forms for all the schools in radius of 6-8 kms (which I consider a MAX for 2.5 yr old kid to travel in a school bus). Among these schools were NPS Indiranagar, Shishu Griha, NCFE, NHPS etc.
The first form filled was for Shishu Griha, back in Sep, and I was told very clearly by the admin who sits in their office, that the interview calls should be expected sometime in Nov. So when I was asked in office to travel to US for a couple of weeks in Oct, I thought it wouldn't create any problem, as far as the admission for my son is concerned. But, as sometime happens in life, you are met with a surprise at the most inopportune time. Just 1 day after I left the country, we got an interview call from Shishu Griha (a phone call on my wife's mobile). Call it the bad/immature/senseless policy of the school or bad thinking/reasoning/logic (or the lack of it) behind it, they did no allow my wife to even attend the interview in my absence. They simply said - "as per school policy/norm, both the parents need to be present at the time of interview". Now god only knows why the presence of "both" the parents is a must for just attending the interview? How about one parent falling sick or travelling (as in my case) or just not able to visit school on that particular day for any of the possible hundreds of reasons - is it justified for a school to decline the interview and thus play with the future of a child just because a parent in not able to attend interview? Even after repeasted requests/calls/emails, the school just turned their blind eye towards us. It took us sometime to understand that its not worth sending the child to send to such an insensible/irresponsible school.
Next, we got call from Hew horizon public school (NHPS) Indiranagar. What sent on there was another lesson to learn. After the interview formalities/assessment, we were informed that seats are not available in NHPS Indiranagar, but we can get a seat in their new school - New Horizon Gurukul, which is on Outer ring road. It wasn't surprising, and definitely not difficult to understand that school was trying to first fill in seats of their new & not-so-well-known school, while saving seats in NHPS to sell them later in the name of Management seats, at a higher price. Obviously we decided not to admit our child in Gurukul.
Finally we got a call from NCFE and went for the assessment. To my pleasant surprise, neither the presence of both the parents (or any parent for that matter) was mandatory, nor did the school show any other indications of cheap ways to extract more money.
My son, aged 2.5 yrs was taken into a classroom (yes, alone without me/wife), alongwith other children of same age and was asked to do some activities (like playing some simple games, throw the ball etc). The focus was only on assessing child, unlike at many other schools. Next day I came to know that my son is selected and we will need to pay the fee within next 3 days.
Though fees may initially look on the higher side, but actually it is comparable to many other schools in Bangalore. Finally I have decided to admit my son in NCFE.
Hi Praveen,
Now that its been a year since your kid gas started going to NCFE, could you please give us your feedback now.
I am planning to put my son in NCFE if he gets selected.
How are the teachers and the quality of education there.
Hello Praveen,
Thank you for the long and detailed post.
It was indeed very helpful.
However I do have a doubt. The closest NCFE is the one opp to springfields - is that between 6-8 km from C.V. Raman Nagar??
Thanks
Komal
Agree with you and appreciate the schools who admit children based on child's interaction irrespective of parents background. However, NCFE screens the applications before calling, and they want both parents photographs as well along with income , education etc.
So can not give them 100% on that.
However at Vagdevi, every applicant was given an interaction schedule and children coming with single parents, with grandparents..all were treated equal and spot selection letters were given to them. no more school has followed such a well managed, rapid and transperant system.
About Sishu Griha- just for benefit of other parents-
Its not mandatory that both parents must go. I know students were admitted who went only with their mothers, father not being in town. You may take another extended family member too. But if child is not in town, I guess its not possible.
Congrats Praveen for your schooling fever recovery:) one admission over, we say that fever is gone!
However I did not admit my child into NCFE inspite it being opposite to my house and walking distance, since i could not justify their fees for available facilities and teaching techniques. Hope school will do their best!
Hi,
Nice to see your review and i totally agree with your comments on these schools.
'We should choose the school, but School should not choose our kid'
I too had the same experience with ShishuGriha.
Iam also putting kid in NCFE and looking forward get more feedback about NCFE
Cheers,
Deepan
My daughter too got selected to NCFE ( it seems almost all who were called for intereaction got selected) and it is just 100 metres from our home.
however, I have not taken admission there.
Just not mandating the presence of parents can't be understood to be a good criteria to judge a school. Infact as I know at NCFE there was NO interaction at all with parents. No teacher/principal ever communicated. They also even saved money on school prospectus.
Its not surprising the school maangement is only into making money and keep raising FEEs every year exorbitantly and every year they have a fight with parents on this issue. Even this year their mont-1 fees (about 105K) for 2011 have already exceeded the fees being charged in other reputed schools like NPS/Sishugrih/NHPS and it can only be imagined how much they would charge in future.
My One cent on the comment that NCFE "already exceeded the fees being charged in other reputed schools like NPS/Sishugrih/NHPS "......NO, at NHPS i guess there is something called management quota seats for which seats the fee for first year is crossing 210K
Well, i took admission in NHPS though not aware about any management seats. The comparison was for the fees which is being asked for these schools :
NCFE: 106K first year ( 51K yearly, next year onwards assuming no hike)
NHPS: 103K first year (42.5K yearly, next year onwards assuming no hike)
Sishugrih: 84K first year
Though Fees is only one aspect. But even after paying high fees the quality of education not good, then its really not worth. My comments are based on the feedback i have received directly from friends whose children study at NCFE and ncfe parents forum group on gmail.
