my son got into bethany............... v r very happy

The Pre-Nursery and Nursery admission lists are out. Our ward got thru Pre-Nursery.

Regardless of whats mention below by some of those, I am looking for admission form in Bethny. Anyone knows when they are going to distribute forms ?

Hi Montessori Aspirants,

Offf ..Its Horrible!

Just handled our first rejection! We did not get call from Sishu griha and admissions are closed now. Both Parents- XLRI & IIMB alumni, residing near school, kid fits perfectly in agegroup. So we understand that the school can't admit all, and its not about the background, rather about the vacancies.

Our options:

New Horizon- preferably Gurukul. Seems to fit our requirement. We submitted two forms for each NHPS and NHG. Our interaction number is 800+ :(.
NCFE- in Malleshpalya. Web reviews made us avoid that school, but when we went there, it was a pleasant surprise. We interacted with Parents and they gave Fabulous feedback. School fees is 45K+65 K for montessori. Amazed to learn that people pulled out their children from Ryan and admitted in NCFE. Infrastructure is Good too. Pleasant to look at small cute children playing in a disciplined way on a green lush lawn, in midst of a large well maintained playground.

NPS - But we have decided not to look forward, since the school notice clearly says there may be less than 60 seats and preference is to NPS siblings and NPS alumni. Morever they recieve more than 1000 applications.

We have decided not to apply anywhere else and if nothing goes through, then we will continue to the private playschool nearby / homeschool our kid and wait till next year for FAPS/KV/Presidency.

On another side, I did my schooling form government school in a small town with fees Rs 5 pm, infact Goverment offerred my parents Rs 1200/- pa scholorship till I completed my higher secondary school :) and like me many others from the same background went to the most enviable technology institutes and best management colleges in India irrespective of our primary/secondary education background.
Food for a thought I welcome from other parents- how do parents with lower financial background survive in todays scenario? Or we have lost our mind control and blinded by the trend that we ignore the much larger and true touchy picture behind few premium Preschools? On this thought My anxiety to worry about the preschool admissions has gone far away.

Will love to know others thoughts and action plans for their preschoolers.

Dear Sheetal,

Good to see that you are also from the same background as mine, Goverment school education, that is. I have been brought up in Chandigarh and my school campus would beat any other school's infrastructure outright, with CBSE syllabus. Not to even mention that all my education, including graduation and the related coaching/tuition fees all put together will not come close to what I would be paying for my son at Sishu Griha at the entry level. Having said that I can really understand your level of anxiety as well as frustration of the school not communicating the results of shortlisting and stuff. I too feel that they should be clearly communicating with the applicants rather than keeping most of the people in dark. A simple list of shortlisted candiates outside would be more than enough. I personally know two more couples who have not got through. But then, I was quite clear that in case of not getting through in Sishu Griha, I would have tried "only" in FAPS for its impressive infrastructure. No NPS or New Horizon because I personally do not like their ground area.

To me schooling is more of a social interaction tool, which ensures that the child is enriched with good and bad experiences with opportunities for learn-unlearn-relearn, which I feel is more important than just educated to be successful. May be because of that confidence I wasn't feeling too dejected when I almost lost hopes on getting the call and am more relieved than happy about his admission for the thought that I don't need to run around for another 12-13 years until his 10th. The demand-supply thing has led to a major rat race which unfortunately laidback parent like me also had to get into. I would still prefer to have my child at home until he is five but then, everything is not in my hands, he is son to my husband as well, who also has plans for him. :)
Wish you all the very best, and do keep us posted on where you decide on your child's schooling. As you said, kids from families like us would definitely do well. :)

Sheetal,
I agree with your views and Many parents go through the stage you are in. I went through this process last year and I can not agree with you more. The issue in big cities like Bangalore is clearly demand-supply mismatch and also the affordability factor that makes people shell out any amount for anything(not just for school education). Also it is every parents anxiety to provide the best possible education to their kids that drives this whole rush and schools are clearly capitalizing on that(similar to the housing/property market). So there is no need to get disappointed just because a couple of schools have not called you. One thing that most likely will work out is to apply for multiple schools and follow them up regularly either by visiting their office or by phone. I agree that not all schools will be transparent and may not entertain any visits or calls. But some schools like BGSNPS are very transparent and do respond to parents queries. You can also consider good schools that are little away( <10 kms) from your locality, but provide a good bus transport that is managed by the school. Also checkout the various threads in this forum as well as on www.parentree.in to know more on various schools near your locality. Good luck with your admission process.

can anybody tell from when forms will start for Montessori ?

Bethany High school in Koramangala has published the shortlisted kids name for pre-nursery admission 2010 and have called for a meeting next week. Your inputs on the following is appreciated

- Standard of education in Bethany in recent time. Bethany is a well known school , but are they able to keep up the standard of education of late?

- I hear that since the school is ICSE , the kids develop good communication skills as ICSE has a good focus on language/literature. I also hear that the school has lot of extra curricular activities. Do they focus equally on the Academic side?

- This is a ICSE school. I hear that most students switch to CBSE after X. Is this true?. If so, are the students able to handle the switch to CBSE for XI after spending 10 years in ICSE environment.

- How is the schools overall performance in ICSE X or XII board exams. I do see that couple of kids have scored 90+% in X or XII. But how is the school's overall pass percentage in the board exams?.

- Any info on school's performance in National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) or other talent examls?

Any other inputs as well are appreciated

Any body knows on what basis they give admission. Do they have any interview for kids or parents? Is it difficult to get admission?

Any idea what a good teacher should be paid. It is quite another story what schools pay their teachers today.

No wonder teaching is such an unpopular profession. As the adage goes "You throw peanuts, You get monkeys.

The only basis on which they give admission to your child in MONEY. If you are ready to give them a lakh or two, you are sure to get a seat. They do not follow and rules and regulations that they mention in their application form. Even if you stay in the other end of Bangalore i.e, may be 20 kms away from the school but will give them 2 lakhs of money you are sure to get a seat.

MONEY DOES THE TRICK

Any idea when the application process for Bethany would start. When last checked with school they said it would be some time around Nov 2nd week .

Can someone please let me know how is Bethany High?

Thanks

I heard from someone that If u r influential, rich and diplomatic or poor , then this is the school for u. Middle class will have problems. Dont want to comment on other important staff, but the Pricipal and Headmaster are good..THINK BEFORE U LEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
