They don't allow note books/worksheet to be brought home, neither do they show child's work during PTM saying that its not in their rule as if parents get to know what child is learning, they start teaching at home. Another point given was they don't want to share worksheets/plan with parents as it might leak to outsiders. Its seems unreasonable as when vidya niketan and sagar don't have any issue in showing it, why shud a school running by same mgmt would think it otherwise. I understand that because of long schools hours, there is no concept of h/w which is well understood but not showing parents what child is doing in school is too much. I wish they understand parents' mindset of knowing what the child is upto and let parents be part of child's development.
They don't even tell parents during parents what they are teaching, the only way to know this is thru a child but since school has so long hours, most of the small kids forget/don't like to tell their routine.
How I wish school would have adopted Niketan's methodology. I know this school caters to different set of parents ( mainly US return and don't bother us with h/w kind ) but they might be 50%, rest 50% would like to have a balanced approach.

My child joined vidya shilp this yr. in std-1(2011-2012). Though their extra-curriculum and sports activities are good but I am really worried about academics. My son complains of hand pain when asked to write even half a page and my neighbor's kid who is in 2'nd std in VSA can't even do addition which involves carry forward. I am putting up in a aprt where lots of kids are in Vidya sagar, vidya niketan and vidya shilp ( as its near hebbal). Vidya Niketan and vidya sagar parents rave about academics but somehow I feel that is lacking in shilp. Infact sagar's parents say , their academics is pretty good. Looks like Sagar and Niketan being in Mrs Vithani's hand is doing good in academics and are pretty particular about the performance in academics. Shilp being in Mr. Vithani and his son's hand, is managed differently.

I would like ex-Sagar parents ( currently Shilp's parent) to comment about change in academics from Sagar to Shilp and what do they think of it ? or did they feel it was too much in Sagar and now they feel relaxed or they accepted it since there in no better choice as Shilp is still better than other schools in vicinity ?? How many of Shilp's parents would like it to be similar in approach as Sagar and Niketan ??

My child also joined Vidyashilp std-1 (2011-2012) and I feel this approach to academics works ...
No homework just means no school-given-work
- so that you are not limited to or you are not stuck to one thing that needs to be finished and submitted the next day.
You are free to pursue whatever learning activity you want to do with your kid for the day
or just take a break that day. This means that the parent needs to come up with work sheets / activities for the kid that are inline with what is currently going on in school and engage the child atleast couple of days in a week.
Here the school's extended curriculum booklet and the web resources can be of help.

When there is no pressure to submit it the next day, the activity is led by child's interest in learning and the kid naturally wants to do it. When the kid interest seems low in one subject we can switch to another and come back to the same subject later.

We are a parent-run organization (google 'gloschol bangalore') conducting academic programs for children from almost every reputed school in Bangalore. We have found several children from Vidyashilp Academy to be among the best performers. For a school that has no homework, tests or structured study plan shared with parents, we have been pleasantly surprised by their academic performance and grasp of concepts.

Did not receive any call so far
The only school we have gone is DPS whitefield.
We completed the Exam and also the interaction.

Hi,

Has anybody received interaction date for 1st grade for 2012 - 2013 admissions?

Thanks & Regards
Rekha

Hi Rekha
We have not received nay interaction date. My Kid is not from the feeder school for Vidyashilp. Today we completed the Exam and DPS Whitefield and also had the interaction with the Principal. Expecting result in a day or two.

DPS Sarajpur is scheduled for Saturday

Which all schools did you apply?

The Best School ever. We, as parents , hardly had to bother about anything about the child- Food, Hygiene, Faculty, Learning etc. My Son , has Naturally blossomed into an excellent Human Being, Thanks to Vidaya Shilp Academy.
The teachers are very approachable, both by students and Parents.
Some parents who wanted to keep daily tabs on kids - ( homework, feedback etc) were not happy with the approach of VSA.
Other Schools are built around the Perception of the British - They thought that Indians were not intelligent and hence built a syllabus for ROTE LEARNING ( Imposition, Home work, emphasis on Handwriting etc). The British thaought that indians are good for "WRITERS" Job only.
VSA approach promotes the Intellect of the CHild. Handwriting is not so Important. What is important is that the Child becomes a THINKER.In that endeavour 100% marks to VSA. They truly brought out the Best from my SON.
We as Parents and also SON have enjoyed the Schooling at VSA. WE ALWAYS CHERISH THE VSA

One Simple question:
Vidya Niketan happens to be the best school in bangalore and seventh best in India(source eduworld'12), so it becomes a little difficult to understand as why the same management has a contradicting thought process for VSA ?

Thank you for your post, it was very encouraging. Would it be possible for you to describe your observation with few examples ?

Glad to see your comments, I am interested in knowing how VSA students are doing in 10, 10+2 , medical and engineering entrance. Though I understand that VSA is till 10'th but most of the students join Niketan hence school will always know the feedback.
I am not sure how much I buy this idea of writing not important, I am just trying to remember my time How good we will be board exams/any compettitive exmas if we are not used to writing much. I have heard couple of case where students started complaining pain when they were asked to write as they are not used to writing. Rote learning is not good but practice makes a man perfect and writing is one of those fine motor skills and its not mutually exclusive to learning without role-learning, both can go together. Though I understand that VSA has long school timing hence giving h/w till primary is not required but it would have been great if parents also have some way to know what their wards are doing by means of work-sheets, boks, copies.

I went to Vidyashilp. Now I go to a university in Sweden and the amount of writing that I did in VSA was more than any one dose hear, not only that more and more people are starting to use computers today. For example my university all of our “homework” and “text books” are on the net. As such also writing is not so important, I don’t know about you but I have never see a doctor who has neat hand writing. Also engineers today sit in front of a computer most of the time. And sorry to say it this way but writing is not what it once was, it would be better for the students to be given one laptop each and thought to use that instead (my personal opinion from my experiences).

hey !! can somebody provide the deatils of fees for various classes.

This yr 2011-2012, fees is 1.10 but I am not sure if it includes food also. I would like to know from parents of VSA regarding fees for transport and food.

Includes food. Transportation is via a group of pvt vehicles and is not included in 1.1 lakhs. It is around 17k.

Hi All,
